VI. AI-Driven Insurance Distribution and Product Development

i. Current Landscape and Challenges

In Lebanon, the integration of AI in insurance distribution is still in its early stages. At a recent LAA conference, when over 150 attendees were asked about active AI implementations within their companies, only a few raised their hands — underscoring the limited adoption.

This hesitation can be attributed to several factors:

  • Cost Concerns: Implementing AI solutions requires significant investment, which can be daunting for companies, especially in markets with limited historical data and uncertain returns on investment.
  • Overpromising Vendors: Some AI solution providers may oversell their capabilities, leading to skepticism among insurers who have experienced underwhelming results from previous tech investments.
  • Lack of Local Success Stories: The absence of prominent AI-driven success stories in the Lebanese insurance sector further dampens enthusiasm for adoption.

ii. Global and Regional Successes

Despite these challenges, there are notable examples globally and regionally where AI has transformed insurance distribution:

  • CoverGo's AI-Powered Distribution Platform: This platform enables insurers to distribute products across multiple channels — including direct sales, agents, brokers, and bancassurance — enhancing efficiency and market reach. (Source: Insurtech Insights)
  • Ping An's Fraud Detection: Chinese insurer Ping An leveraged machine learning to save $302 million from fraudulent claims in a single year, highlighting AI's power in risk management. (Source: appier)
  • Sanad.AI's Document Processing: In the GCC, Sanad.ai offers intelligent document processing solutions that automate workflows from document capture to data extraction, improving both accuracy and efficiency. (Source: Sanad AI)

iii. Opportunities for Lebanon

For Lebanese insurers — much like their counterparts abroad — adopting AI presents several key opportunities:

  • Enhanced Distribution Strategies: AI can analyze customer and product data to identify the most effective distribution channels for specific segments, enabling optimized resource allocation.
  • Product Development and Pricing: By leveraging AI analytics, insurers can identify market trends and customer needs, leading to tailored product creation and dynamic pricing strategies.
  • Operational Efficiency: Automation of routine tasks such as document handling and claims processing can significantly reduce costs and improve customer satisfaction.
