Boeing – Al nahar news
Since 2018, Boeing, the American aircraft manufacturer, has been plagued by a series of accidents that have significantly tarnished its reputation and led to billions in losses. Professor Jihad Faitrouni, an insurance and risk management consultant, noted that Boeing reported a loss of $355 million at the beginning of this year, which is less than the previous year’s loss.
Mr. Faitrouni highlighted the severe impact on Boeing’s 737 Max aircraft, specifically referencing the Ethiopian Airlines Flight 302 crash in 2019, which resulted in the loss of all passengers and crew. This tragic incident alone cost Boeing approximately $24 billion in just two days.
He further explained that Boeing faced significant challenges with manufacturing standards, leading to numerous job losses for Boeing employees. The grounding of the 737 Max had a ripple effect on air transportation, causing widespread chaos and delays in flights.
Investigations revealed that the principal cause of the 737 Max crashes was the aircraft’s automatic control system (MCAS). This technical defect, along with concerns about the potential for the fuel tank to explode, severely damaged Boeing’s reputation in the international market. Consequently, countries that had purchased this type of airplane quickly replaced it with other models.
Despite these challenges, Mr. Faitrouni expressed optimism about Boeing’s future, stating that the company will eventually overcome this situation and flourish again. He mentioned that Boeing has signed an agreement with Spirit AeroSystems Holdings to address and resolve the manufacturing issues.
